September Show at OhNo!Doom

September 1st - Oct 11 -  OhNo!Doom, Chicago is host to a show that includes the work of myself, Teagan White, and Tiny Kitten Teeth .

My contribution to the show will be a collection of drawings and small paintings  (not unlike the "Tiny Paintings" series created for Too Art 4 TV 5 in March 2011) It includes 2 sets of paintings - one series of 13 and one series of 8. Then a series of 10 framed pencil drawings.  Below is what the sets look like all hung together in their proper configuration.  As you can see, while they can exist on their own of course, the pieces are somewhat of a color puzzle and relate to each other through the organization of the palette as a whole.  See all the work in its entirety here: www.flickr.com/photos/kdenato/sets/72157631311258400/ and purchase work from the OhNo!Doom site here: www.ohno-doom.myshopify.com/collections/the-grove

Thanks for coming along for this ride! Next up - November 9th Too Art for TV 6 and November 16th at My Plastic Heart with Julie West - stay tuned!

Adventure Time Tribute Show at OhNo!Doom Gallery

August 11- August 30 OhNo!Doom in Chicago, IL is host to a fabulous group show paying tribute to that most adorable of shows, Adventure Time! Just TRY to not to sing the theme song - I dare you!

I chose to pay homage to my most favorite character - she's all lumps and attitude ladies and gentlemen - THEE Lumpy Space Princess or LSP.  The sculpt is called "OH.MY.GLOB." and is about 4.5 x 7 inches. It is housed in a glass dome with a walnut base, materials include: resin, acrylics, crystals, glitter, +more.

Here's some shots of the finished piece (with & without the dome). Scroll down for work-in-progress shots (if you are into that sorta thing) The piece will be available through the OhNo!Doom gallery through August. Please check out the amazing works by other participating artists here: http://ohno-doom.myshopify.com/collections/adventure-time Happy shopping!

Crazy 4 Cult - Fezik's Dream

Here is the final image for my contribution to the Crazy 4 Cult show from Gallery 1988 NY.  Inspired by the cult movie "The Princess Bride" and a quote from Wesley/The Dread Pirate Roberts...

"I do not envy you the headache you will have when you awake. But for now, rest well and dream of large women"

The show seemed to be a TREMENDOUS success - huge thanks to Gallery 1988 who clearly know how to promote! And bravo to all the participating artists - the work was funny, lovely, and smart. FANtastic.  Please check out the Gallery1988 video of the opening event - the lines wrapped around the block.  Truly impressive :)

Crazy4Cult Work In Progress - Fezik's Dream

More of the process fo yo eyeballz...

I've got some reference I pulled from the internet, old art books, movies - things that capture the mood, style, romanticism that I'm shooting for in this image.  Also color color COLOR! Check out my Pinterest for some interesting palette inspiration I pulled before settling on the one below.

Lovely Marie Antionette painting - lace and feathers!

Screengrab of me playing with colors - Took an image from the Sophia Coppolla Marie Antionette film (look at that platinum hair and gold fork- yum!) and married it with my own drawings and the classic portrait painting I found.

mmm...mixing colors.
