Signs of the Apocalypse - WIP

Here we go! I am VERY late on these (pesky surgeries and complications will do that to a painter >:-| ) Below we have sketch, a color study, some early signs of painting.  Now get this -  i FINALLY get my ass painting again and >BAM< thunderstorm power outage! So I lost a whooooole day - argh.  Back on track today and was smart enough to preserve some of my mixed colors so hopefully things move along quick like a bunneh :)

The first doodle
Photoshop color study...we'll see how it works out...
Yup. That's a board.

Working out some new techniques - so much left to do!

Crazy4Cult Work In Progress - Fezik's Dream

More of the process fo yo eyeballz...

I've got some reference I pulled from the internet, old art books, movies - things that capture the mood, style, romanticism that I'm shooting for in this image.  Also color color COLOR! Check out my Pinterest for some interesting palette inspiration I pulled before settling on the one below.

Lovely Marie Antionette painting - lace and feathers!

Screengrab of me playing with colors - Took an image from the Sophia Coppolla Marie Antionette film (look at that platinum hair and gold fork- yum!) and married it with my own drawings and the classic portrait painting I found.

mmm...mixing colors.

Crazy4Cult - Work In Progress

Gallery1988 visits NYC! Crazy4Cult Show - Cult movie theme list was supplied by the gallery and after some exploration and an inspiring chat with my good friend and comic creator Mike Mcmenemy.  These are but the seeds of sketches of a painting to be...

I've settled on "The Princess Bride" not only because it's one of my absolute favorites but because the idea born through that chat with Mike is too delicious to not at least attempt! "Fezik's Dream" - born from the line that The Man in Black delivers after besting our dear giant, Fezik:  "I do not envy you the headache you will have when you awake. But, in the meantime, rest well, and dream of large women."

And so we have women giants, four white horses, and barrels of beer.  Sweet dreams...

The Great Escape - Stranger Factory April 6th 2012

This update for The Great Escape show with Andrew Bell at Stranger Factory in Albuquerque, New Mexico is looooong overdue.

Andrew and I were lucky enough to attend and although our flights were riddled with delays, cancellations, and turbulence, we had a terrific time.  Kathy Olivas & Brandt Peters (the owners of Stranger Factory), and some of their helper bees - Archer Dougherty and Amy Greenwood (@vinylgoddess) were all so adorable and hospitable,  how could we not enjoy ourselves!

I'll add more pics to this post later but for now, just a few samples and this flickr link ( www.flickr.com/photos/kdenato/sets/ )

I know I've been missing for a bit but I've been BZZy! I've got a bunch of paintings, drawings, and sculpts in the works for the upcoming show on April 6th 2012 at Stranger Factory in New Mexico. It's very exciting.

This drawing is called "Cut Loose" - it is about 8 x 10 or so and is ink on Vellum

My Plastic Heart Presents - New Moon : Interpretations of the Chinese Zodiac 2012

New Moon opening @ My Plastic Heart NYC was last night! It was a great turnout with lots of lovely and familiar faces :) The people associated with that place are just some of the greatest - it's always a good time. You can read a little Q & A between myself and the MPH blogger about my New Moon work here: www.myplasticblog.com Below are the images of my pieces that are in the exhibit. (Eventually I might post a few pics from the opening itself we'll see...) For now I hope you enjoy these! Thanks for the support while I was preparing for this show. Get ready to do the same for my show with Andrew Bell at Stranger Factory in NM this April!
