Tiny Paintings

Same story as "Cut & Run" with these little paintings - just trying to keep up the momentum by creating work even though there's no deadline or outlet for the work. Those of you that are artists yourself know what I'm talking about here - it's not an easy task!

These are 4 small paintings 4 x 6 in - 7 x 5 in acrylic on wood panel - Blue and liquid in theme. You can also visit them here http://www.flickr.com/photos/kdenato/sets/72157627302374116/

"Cut & Run" 22x24 in Acrylic on wood panel

After an outpouring of work pretty much nonstop from Feb - May the prospect of a whole month without doing something with my busy fingers was just TOO scary! And so "Cut & Run" was born. It's not my most favoritest piece but I learned a lot while making it and got to explore some new techniques and color combinations. So while they can't all be hits - they all have relevance. And so I share it with you! To see more details view the album on flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/kdenato/sets/72157627178835756/

January 2010 InStyle Magazine (since i missed it last Jan)

Well since I forgot to post this really cool project I was involved in last January I'ma post it in THIS January post :) This projects was for an interactive magazine for InStyle (project curators were Dorian Orange) My role was to storyboard the model's path and gestures for our shoot on a tiny treadmill (poor girls) and in front of a green screen which would later be filled in virtually with my illustrations and made "3D" by DO's brilliant animators and programmers. I'm posting two examples of what the end result was and a few images of the BETA of what the actual interactive magazine would look like!

American Eagle Kids Animations - October 2010

Again working through Dorian Orange for American Eagle Outfitters kids. This time working on some adorable Yeti character animations as well as our old friend the little Blue Bird. It's a snowboarding/snowball fighting/hat sharing ad for an AE Kids Winter Sale. My role was to do a redesign of the AE Yeti character and a new treatment of the Blue Bird to fit the paper cut out style of this particular ad. I also completed a list of gesture animations of both the bird and the Yeti. The awesome animators at Dorian compiled my bits and created the rest of the ad.

American Eagle Kids Animations - September 2010

I was working for a spot called Dorian Orange. This job for them was for American Eagle Outfitters Kids in conjunction with some sort of literacy campaign. I did several spot animations of the little bluebird logo which were to be compiled and shown on one of the megatron screens in Times Square. Sadly I don't have the compiled animation nor do I have the video of the ad playing in Times Square (FAIL!) I'd love to share the animations with you but Blogger is being a bugger. I'll try again later...

PulpO! Opening August 6th 2010

PulpO
Eight-person exhibition

Opening reception - Friday, August 6th 2010, 6pm-9:30pm

RUNS: August 6th through August 30th, 2010

at Tulum Gallery, 244 North 6th St., Williamsburg, NY 11211

[Tulum Gallery - Williamsburg, NY]
Tulum Gallery is proud to present PulpO, an eight-person group show of new drawings and paintings by New York-based artists in animation, illustration, and the fine arts. Showing together in a variety of styles and media, these eight artists draw from their backgrounds as representational artists to cultivate narratives influenced by pulp and comic-art traditions. Themes like science fiction, war, horror, the occult, exploitative stories, sensational iconography, and adventure are interpreted by this group with surreal, whimsical, and abstract flourishes.

The manic and comically apocalyptic drawings of Christy Karacas, co-creator of Adult Swim’s Superjail!, will be featured for the first time on a smaller scale in PulpO. Devin Clark, the creator of Comedy Central’s Ugly Americans, will showcase his obsessive and tangled “hair” paintings. PulpO will also feature the painted pop culture musings of Jackson Publick, creator of Adult Swim’s Venture Bros., the sinister characters of illustration painter Kelly Denato’s storybook-acrylics, the playful “multiplane” objects of animation designer Chris George, and more.
